Munich is the capital of the Bavaria state. It was built on the 12th cent AD near a setlement of Benedictine monks. This is also the cause for the city to be named Muenchen.
The metro (U-Bahn) and suburban (S-bahn) are covering a huge area of the city and there is absolutely no need for a car. Another nice mean of transport is by bicycle as Munich is very friendly for cyclers.
Don't miss kartofel knodel (smth like patatoe balls) with Schweinenbraten (pork meat with a great sauce)!!!! Like all germans the food is full of meat and tasty sauces but unfortunately full of calories!!! Also as an apetizer try the traditional Braezel with it unique form.
Oktoverfest festival is worldwide known. It starts at the end of September and lasts 3 weeks. I would recomend it only if you like to drink a lot of beer and socialise with thousands of people around you!!! Milions of visitors are travelling to Munich for this occasion so if you fancy the idea you have to book really early! In case you want to have a taste of it but you travelled on different season you should spend a night out in Hofbraeuhaus - The oldest Brewery in Munich with traditional music and dishes... Highly recomended!!!
A visit to the German museum is a great experience. It is absolutely huge and extremely interesting. A whole day is needed just to get a taste... BMW museum is also very interesting for the car lovers...
