Frequent Questions

1.How do I add my guide?

You have three options in writing your guide:

  • 1.Choose Add Guide from the main menu.
  • 2.Choose the link here in the text frame ‘Don’t you agree? Do you want to add anything else? Add your own guide here! that appears on the page of the results on guides per destination (view ‘How do I search for travel guides to the place I want?’).

By using any of these ways you will be transferred to the page where you can add a guide. Now choose the continent and country from the list and add your destination (obligatory fields). In case you don’t remember how your destination is spelled, choose the link Map next to the Country field so that you can see the corresponding map. You may also fill the prefecture where your destination belongs and your birth year (optional fields).

When you are ready to proceed to writing your guide choose Continue. By doing so, a bar with the available basic categories of the guide appears. Choose the category you want and the subcategories that it may have, appear. Choose the category/subcategory you want and write in the text input field. In order to help you, an explanation of what you could write about in every category/subcategory appears.
When you finish writing a category/subcategory you can immediately choose the next one you wish to write or click on Save for ‘name of category/subcategory’ so as to first save what you have already written and then move on to the next. When you complete writing the guide click on Finish guide. Your guide is now saved and is IMMEDIATELY available for the users of Travelplorer.

Note: You can change the inputs in the fields ‘Continent, Country, Prefecture, Year of Birth and Destination’ after you have initially filled them in, and then save the changes by clicking on Update (after initially completing the fields and choosing Continue, in its place appears Update).

2.Do I have to register so as to add a guide?

No! You may write your guide without registering, but you will not enjoy the extra benefits that registering offers you. The most important being your ability to change your guide whenever you want (view ‘What are the advantages of registering?’)

3.Can I change my guide after I have added it? How?

Only if you had registered and signed in before you wrote it. In this case, sign in again (view ‘How do I sign in?’) and choose Edit my guides (or My profile and then My travel guides). Thus, all the guides you have written appear. Choose the guide you want to change and click on Edit to move to the page Add guide with all the fields and categories/subcategories completed with those parts of the guide you wish to change. Make the changes you want and click on finish guide for them to be saved.

4.Do I have to write in all categories/subcategories?

Of course not! Write what you know even in only one and your guide will be accepted. Even the slightest contribution is important for our travel community!

5.Is there any limitation on the content to be written in a category/subcategory?

There is only the limitation of writing at least 50 characters. The reason for this is avoiding one word entries in our categories/subcategories, which do not actually show experience. Keep in mind that Travelplorer is aiming at the accumulation of travellers’ experience.

6.Is there a specific writing style I have to use in my guide?

No. Just keep your style simple and comprehensible so that everyone can understand it.

7.Are there any rules I have to follow when writing my guide?

The basic philosophy of Travelplorer is intervening the least in users’ entries. For this reason, the rules to be followed are few and restricted to the following which are completely necessary:

  • 1.Do not swear
  • 2.Write only in English
  • 3.Do not enter html texts because it will be deleted
  • 4.You can express any complaints you may have (eg. concerning service at a restaurant) but without insulting anyone
  • 5.Do not write about unnecessary personal details

8.When will my guide be available at the site?

Immediately after you have completed your entry and have clicked on the button Finish Guide ! Your guide is now available on the site!!

9.Is the content of my guide subject to inspection?

It is subject to inspection only as far as the rules that must be followed (view ‘Are there any rules I have to follow when writing my guide?’). The inspection takes place after your guide is on the site and in case any deviations are tracked down, Travelplorer has the right to make the appropriate changes without any prior warning.

10.Can a third person change my guide?

No! Your guide can only change by you and only if, before writing it, you had signed in (view ‘Can I change my guide after it has been added?’ How?). The only thing that another user can do is rate your guide (view ‘Can I rate the content of a category/subcategory that a user has written?’ and ‘Can I rate the content of the guide as a whole?’).

11.Can I view all the guides I have written?

Yes, provided that you are a Travelplorer member (view ‘How do I register’). In this case, sign in (view ‘How do I sign in’) and choose Edit my guides or My profile and then My travel guides. Keep in mind that you can view only the guides you have written as a member and after you have signed in. If on one occasion you have written a guide without registering or without having signed in, then your guide will not appear on My guides. You, then, can merely view it the way all other Travelplorer visitors can (view ‘How can I view a guide as a whole?’).

12.How can I view the rating that my guide has received by other users?

Sign in (view ‘How can I sign in?) and choose Edit my guides or My profile and then My travel guides. From the list showing the guides you have written choose See Ratings and a new window with the ratings your guide has received will open.

13.How do I search for travel guides to the place I want?

To look for a travel guide you have to fill in at least one of the fields Continent, Country, Destination on the initial page and click on Search. Keep in mind that the fewer the fields you fill in, the more general your search will be. For example, if you fill in only the field Continent, then the destination of your search will be the given continent and its result will be travel guides of destinations that are in the countries of this continent.

14.How are the results of my search presented?

When you are ready to start your search on the initial page, click on Search. In this way a new page appears (depending on the choice of search you have made) on which the following are presented:

  • 1.Travel guides to your chosen destination provided you have filled in the field Destination. Every guide is comprised of twelve main categories, while some categories are divided into subcategories. The total list of categories and subcategories appear on the left side of the page. You cannot view the whole guide that every user has written on this page. Travelplorer prefers projecting all the guides per category and subcategory. That is, enabling you to view what all the users have written for the category/subcategory you have chosen on every occasion. In this way, you can instantly compare the information you are given and choose the one that suits you best.
  • 2.Travel guides to destinations within a country ( in case you have filled in the fields Continent and Country and you haven’t filled Destination). Choose the destination you want out of them and will be transferred to the page that concerns the guide to your destination. Furthermore, regarding only Greece and Cyprus, on this page guides appear both per county and prefecture. Just choose the county or prefecture that interests you and you will be transferred to a new page that will show the guides to destinations within the chosen county or prefecture only.
  • 3.Travel guides to destinations within a content per country (in case you have filled in only the filed Continent). Just choose the country that interests you and you will be transferred to the page showing the guides to destinations within the specific country as was described above On this page, the political map of the chosen continent is also shown.

15. Which category/subcategory is initially shown? How can I view the content of another category?
